Sooraj Pancholi’s trial moves to the CBI Court in the Jiah Khan case

Sooraj Pancholi and his family have a reason to smile today. The trial in the Jiah Khan case, in which the actor is accused, has been moved to the CBI Court this afternoon. Actress Jiah Khan’s alleged suicide has been probed by the Mumbai Police and the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation), but the trial in the matter began in the early days of 2019 with little progress. The Sessions Court’s order today has given the Pancholis a sense of relief that the trial will finally get expedited and everyone will find due to closure.

Advocate Prashant Patil, who represents Sooraj in the trial, told Bombay Times, “The order granted by the Hon’ble Sessions Court to transfer the said case to Special CBI Court is a welcome move for my client, Sooraj Pancholi. We have been moving applications since the beginning of the trial to expedite the case and decide the matter on its merits within six months. Our applications were allowed. Even then, the trial proceedings were delayed. We then moved a Writ Petition before the Hon’ble Bombay High Court for expediting the trial and concluding it within six months.

The matter now is transferred to Hon’ble CBI Court which according to law is the correct legal position. We are confident now that the matter shall be expeditiously conducted and concluded. If the prosecution has faith in their allegations against my client, it should conduct the trial on a day-to-day basis and prove the guilt of my client. Procrastinating justice only hurts the basic principle of criminal jurisprudence. On the next date, we shall move an application to expedite proceedings of the trial on a day-to-day basis before the Hon’ble CBI Court.”
