UP girl Manya Singh becomes the Second Runner-Up at Femina Miss India 2020

It was a nail-biting finish to the grand finale of VLCC Femina Miss India 2020, held in Mumbai. The pageant’s results found a gorgeous silver-lining in Miss Uttar Pradesh Manya Omprakash Singh, who was declared the Second Runner-Up in the contest. While she may not have won the top honours, she did beat lakhs of aspirants this year to make it to the Top Three. Crowned by Shreya Shanker, the 21-year-old girl could barely hold her tears at the announcement. Manya is the daughter of a rickshaw driver, residing in Mumbai and rooted in a village near Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh. The story of her struggle to make it to thus far has been received with more interest than that of the key winner of the event, a 23-yr-old engineer, Manasa Varanasi from Telangana.

Manya Singh overcame thousands of hurdles to make it to the pageant and then to the top 15 and eventually to the final three. In a post shared by the official Instagram account of Femina Miss India in December 2020, Manya shared the story of her struggle – how she made ends meet, how she completed her education and never let go of her dreams. She washed dishes at a restaurant for her education and worked at a call centre to fix the additional cost incurred in the course of her studies. She believes and has thus proven that nothing is impossible if one is committed to their dreams and wants to uplift their family. “My entry into VLCC Femina Miss India 2020 was to prove a point,” she said.

Expressing her gratitude to her parents, she stated, “I worship them,” on her Instagram story. Manya was born in Uttar Pradesh. After completing her schooling, Manya joined Mumbai’s Thakur College of Science and Commerce. Currently, she is preparing to pursue Management Studies, as she considers education to be one’s greatest weapon to fight odds. Manya’s inspiration from the world of beauty was Priyanka Chopra Jonas who she feels is a woman of substance. However, Manya has always looked up to her mother inspiration, and it’s she who has influenced her the most. Manya has stated that she has learnt to never give up and work hard from her mother.
